A Century of Existence of the Congregation: 1833-1933

In 1933, the Daughters of the Cross proudly celebrated a century of love, dedication, and service, marking a significant milestone in the city and diocese of Liège, the birthplace of their Congregation. This jubilee year was a time for reflection, gratitude, and admiration for the remarkable legacy of their Foundress, Mother Marie Thérèse Haze, and Co-Founder Canon Habets. Their selfless devotion sparked the flourishing of schools, hospitals, homes for the needy, and so much more, with over 95 houses and 2,000 Sisters. Over the course of a century, the sisters have taken on a wide range of apostolates, including pastoral care, education, boarding schools, orphanages, hospitals, dispensaries, homes for children with disabilities, elder care hospices, refugee support, and more.

Beatification

Blessed Marie Thérèse’s beatification process began in 1902 and culminated with her beatification by Pope John Paul II on April 21, 1991. She was declared "Venerable" in 1941, recognizing her heroic virtue.
