Blessed Marie Thérèse (1833-1876)

“Courage my sisters, God will assist you”

A woman of courage and zeal, braving mountains and oceans, inspired by love for Christ on the Cross, Mother Marie Thérèse, founder of the Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross of Liège, dedicated her life to God’s service. Her unwavering faith and commitment to education, health, social causes, continue to inspire generations to live their vocation with love and devotion.

Mother Victorine (1876-1896)

A woman endowed with a compassionate heart, steadfast vision, and profound wisdom, she founded 27 institutions, leaving an enduring legacy of inspiration and progress. For 16 years, she also served as Novice Mistress, guiding young souls in deepening their relationship with Jesus, nurturing their love for their vocation, and accompanying them in their commitment to their calling.

Mother Chrysostome (1896-1897)

Served as Mother General for just one year, she departed for her heavenly abode during her term, leaving behind a legacy of immense intelligence, unwavering faith, and complete trust in God.

Mother Ferdinande (1897-1900)

A woman of steadfast character and remarkable generosity, she dedicated 20 years as Novice Mistress, shaping young minds to embrace their vocation with passion and unwavering commitment.

Mother Marie Augustine (1900-1920)

“I love my congregation, I will always take special care of it”

Exceptionally gifted in both intellect and spirit, she became the first Mother General to visit India, just three years after her election.

Mother Marie Victorine (1920-1931)

“Her final words were, "What I want most is the sanctification of the Sisters."

She was the first Superior General to personally visit all the Houses, and is revered as a saint.

Mother Carola Mary (1931-1952)

Sister served as Superior General for 21 years—the longest tenure since the Foundress, Mother Marie Therese. In 1938, she consecrated the Congregation to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was a devoted leader who personally wrote letters to each Daughter of the Cross.

Mother Marie Stanislas (1952-1963)

Sister radiated a deep sense of love and compassion toward all her fellow sisters, nurturing them with a maternal heart. She held a profound devotion to Our Blessed Mother Mary and fervently prayed for the Holy Souls, embodying a spirit of unwavering faith and spiritual tenderness.

Mother Gabrielle Maria (1963-1976)

“I beg that each of you work daily at building a sisterly community. Christ dwells in each of our sisters.”

She was admired for her humility and dedication to learning.

Sister Monica Mc'Auley (1976-1988)

During her tenure as Superior in 1982, the Constitution and Directory underwent significant revision under her guidance.

Sister Marguerite Dirick (1988-2000)

“The Charism is alive: it is in our hands”

During her tenure as Mother General, two momentous events took place: the Beatification of Mother Marie Thérèse at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome on April 21st, 1991, and the reverent transfer of her remains from 'Ecce Homo' to the Church of the Mother House.

Sister Arlinda Azaredo(2000-2012)

During her tenure, the establishment of the Rourkela Province marked a significant milestone. While the creation of the Vice Province was a source of great joy, it also carried the inevitable pain of separation—a bittersweet experience that ultimately gave rise to new beginnings for all involved.

Sister Kathleen O'Reilly (2012-2018)

During her tenure, the Generalate was transferred from Liège to England, and on April 29, 2017, the sacred remains of Blessed Marie Thérèse were solemnly translated from the Mother House Church to St. Paul’s Cathedral in Liège.
