Blessed Carlo Acutis: The Cyber Apostle of the Eucharist

Carlo Acutis was born on 3rd May 1991, in London to Italian parents, later moving to Milan, where his deep love for God and the Eucharist flourished. Spiritually mature beyond his years, Carlo received his First Holy Communion at age seven and embraced daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, the Rosary, and weekly Confession. He called the Eucharist “highway to heaven” likewise Adoration as “recharging a battery”

A tech-savvy teenager, Carlo taught himself coding, video editing, and web design. At age eleven, he launched a website documenting Eucharistic miracles worldwide, aiming to share the beauty of the faith online. He once said, “The more we receive the Eucharist, the more we become like Jesus.”

While he enjoyed football, video games, and friendships, his faith always came first. He stood up for the bullied, gave to the poor, and volunteered to serve the poor and the homeless.

Illness and Death

Diagnosed with aggressive leukemia at 15, Carlo embraced his suffering with grace. He offered his pain for the Pope and the Church, saying, “I’m happy to die because I’ve lived my life without wasting a minute on anything unpleasing to God.” He died on October 12, 2006, in Monza, Italy.

Beatification and Path to Sainthood

Carlo’s reputation for holiness quickly spread. His incorrupt body now lies in a glass tomb in Assisi, where he wished to be buried. He was beatified on October 10, 2020, following the Vatican’s recognition of a miracle involving the healing of a Brazilian boy who prayed to him.

In May 2024, Pope Francis approved a second miracle, clearing the way for Carlo’s canonization. While the exact date is pending, it is expected in 2025 during the Church’s Jubilee Year—a symbolic moment for a saint who embodies holiness in the digital era.

Legacy

Carlo is a patron for the internet generation—gamers, students, and digital natives—showing that sanctity is attainable in modern life. He transformed technology into a tool for evangelization and lived by these guiding words:

“Not me, but God.”

“All people are born as originals, but many die as photocopies.”

“To always be close to Jesus—that’s my life plan.”
